#52Ancestors: Grandmother Rosie Salas Married Benjamin Robledo Surprisingly Close to My Home

Despite them both living in Los Angeles County, California, and Benjamin having a very large family in Los Angeles County, my grandparents Rosie Salas and Benjamin Robledo chose to marry in nearby Orange County. I found this out when I discovered their marriage record, which came as a big surprise to both me and my dad….because his parents married one city away from where I spent my entire childhood.

Discovering Two More Sets of 3rd Great Grandparents: Sanches, Ochoa, Salas, and Cerna!

Two weeks ago today, I knocked one more piece off of a major brickwall ancestral line by identifying the names of two more sets of paternal 3rd great grandparents. Four new names and two new surnames provide clues to keep digging into my New Mexico and Old Mexico roots.

#52Ancestors: Bible-Walking-and-Talking Great Grandmother “GG” Veronica Dorris

Veronica Victoria Dorris (1883-1982), called “Ronnie” by family and friends, was my husband’s great grandmother. This good southern Christian lady moved to the wild west Arizona Territory, away from her parents and family home in Mississippi. She married, raised her children, and spent the rest of her life in Arizona.

#52Ancestors: My Great Grandmother Agnes Viola Elizabeth Maud Mara Died 43 Years Ago Today

My 48th ancestor is my great grandmother Agnes Viola Elizabeth Maud Mara (1893-1971), who went by the name Viola. I have mentioned Viola in posts about her father, mother, brother, and mystery half-brother, but I have never actually profiled my great grandmother. Today marks the 43rd anniversary of her death.

#52Ancestors: 2nd Great Grandmother Annie Sophia Allen Charged with Fraud and Deception in Divorce

My 2nd great grandmother Annie Sophia Allen (b. 1871) was charged with divorce from husband John Carr on the grounds of fraud and deception. I am not sure Allen ever legally divorced her first husband Thomas Mara. Was this the fraud? She also committed at least one lie on her marriage record to Carr.

People Referenced: Allen, Anna Sophia (b. 1871), Allen, Herbert Gerald (b. 1889), Mara, Agnes Elizabeth Viola Maud (1893-1971), Mara, Thomas (b. 1858), Mara, William James (1894-1952)

#52Ancestors: 2nd Great Grandfather Thomas Mara Charged with Extreme Cruelty in Divorce

My 2nd great grandparents Thomas Mara and Anna Sophia Allen, married in 1892, divorced in 1902 on the grounds of extreme cruelty. The divorce took place one day after Anna was already remarried. Was she a bigamist?

#52Ancestors: Who are the Parents of Grand Uncle Harry Flanagan?

My grand uncle Harry. J. Flanagan is the only sibling of my grandfather’s for whom I cannot confirm parentage. Both of the parents he claims were married to their first spouses at the time of his birth. And he is the only sibling for whom I cannot locate a birth or baptism record.
